Once a movie house, this downtown location is now home to Café Max. Established in 1985 by a local, Susie Mahler, the café has become somewhat of a local museum and favorite with locals and visitors. The decor reflects the community's history. Memorabilia of the town, lake and Culver Academies grace the walls. The café still displays its original tin ceiling from the early 1900's.Fresh baked bread and homemade soups are a favorite.  Known as "the working man's restaurant" the prices are affordable and the atmosphere comfortable.

A daily lunch special is offered Monday thru Friday. Some of the more popular breakfast items, which are served until 2pm  include Sinful French Toast, Breakfast Burritos, Spinach Omelet with Feta Cheese or Buttermilk Biscuits and Sausage and Gravy. Beside the ever popular endless cup of coffee you can linger over an espresso or cappuccino.  Frozen Hot Chocolates, Mango Banana Smoothies and Java Chip and just a few of our blender specialties.   On the Evening menu you will find Hand Breaded Fish, Prime Rib, Fresh Salads and Quesadillas to mention just a few.  Lounge by the cozy fireplace while you sip latte, Irish Coffee, wine or a cordial. Try surfing the web on the free Wi-Fi. A children's menu is available for the little ones. Children are always welcome.
